Concern over the rise in electrical cable theft in several locations over the past few weeks has been voiced by Zwane.

The municipality claims that since the year’s commencement, cables worth R1.9 million have been taken in the Metsimaholo municipal area, leaving many homes and commercial buildings in the dark.

This high cost covers the cost of the actual maintenance and material and infrastructural repairs.The majority of cable thefts and damage against municipal infrastructure occurred at night, and in some cases, the offenders were never caught.

According to Metsimaholo, there have been three incidences in the previous three weeks alone, with two of those crimes involving electrical cable theft being recorded last Thursday.

Mayor Zwane has urged law enforcement organizations, the SAPS, community groups, and neighborhood watches to help stop the scourge the crime.

Two individuals were detained, while others remain at large and carry on their criminal activities.
